7-year-old Ugandan rapper who was almost jailed for abandoning studies has been nominated for prestigious American award . The youngest Ugandan rapper landed a nomination in an international music award barely months after brushing shoulders with Uganda’s Minister for youth.
Uganda’s Youth Minister had urged a seven-year-old rapper to drop the mic and stop doing music, warning that his fan base and manager will likely face jail time if he doesn’t. The minister stated that the star was skipping school and performing in clubs late at night.
“Children who are below 18 years are not allowed to perform and enter in clubs, so I am going to do everything possible to stop kids from performing and entering in clubs,” Florence Nakiwala said in a televised interview.
Patrick Ssenyonjo known to many as Fresh Kid has landed nomination in America’s prestigious awards dubbed Carolina Music Video Awards (CMVAs). He managed to get nominated thanks to his music video Bambi which was selected to battle it out in the awards whose gala is set for July 20 2019, in USA.
The star took to Instagram to share the good news and urge fans to vote for him so that he could bring the trophy back to Uganda. ”Hey guys I need your support please vote for me I need to bring this award home. Share as much as you can. Fresh Kid Nominated In U.S.A Awards – Purple TV Africa,” he wrote on Instagram.
