Busia County Assembly is in the process of establishing a fully functional equipped fitness centre (GYM) where staff and members of the County Assembly can work out to keep themselves fit. This is according to the Governor’s Press unit.
The move to establish a fitness centre within the precincts of the assembly is contained in the recommendations of the Culture and Sports Committee report on 1st Edition of County Assemblies Sports Association (CASA) Games held in Kasarani in 2018.
The report tabled by the committee chairman Hon Patrick Obuya was unanimously adopted by members who called for implementation of the seven recommendations by the committee with the Deputy saying that the establishment of a GYM within the assembly will help members keep fit and avoid contracting non-communicable diseases.
House member Florence Ologi reiterated that a qualified physiatrist should be employed to undertake training once the gym has been established while
Nancy Okademi said with the establishment of the Gym, there will be no need to go for games ahead of time, adding that it will improve the performance of Busia Assembly team in CASA games.
Moses Ochieng (Burumba Ward) said as a professional instructor his services at the GYM will be paramount, noting that it’s costs less than Sh3m to install GYM facilities.
Cynthia Mutere (nominated) said the GYM will make her advance her skills as a shot put thrower with prospects of excelling in future CASA games.
The County’s press unit also reported that other recommendations included increasing funding for the games, rewarding outstanding performers and teams as a way of motivating them, availing of medical practitioners to teams during preparations and actual games and procurement of sports equipment in time.
