Foreign Affairs CAS Hon. Ababu-Terrah Namwamba, EGH was the guest of Honour at the official launch of the Busia Professionals Association (BUPAA) at Quills Hotel, Busia County today.
Hon. Ababu urged Busia Professionals to shift the mindset of narrating problems to fixing them. He implored them to help make Busia County a prosperous getaway to the African hinterland, taking full advantage of geopolitical developments in the Eastern Africa region. He said air travel is key in this respect and committed to get Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) to license an airstrip for Busia. He challenged the Busia County government to prioritise this project alongside improvement of roads, including dualing of the main highway into Busia town.
CAS Ababu reiterated the importance of having a strong local industrial base to grow Busia’s economy and generate employment for Busia youth. Hon Ababu announced that national government had given Mulwanda Ginnery Kshs 30 million for its revival and urged farmers across the county to get into cotton farming to feed the recently revived Rivatex in Eldoret. He also announced that Portuguese investor Rev Sol Kudura EA was making good progress with their investment in solar power generation to supply Busia with affordable uninterrupted power in a move that could drive out the inefficient Kenya Power. Hon Ababu further disclosed that Chinese investors were preparing to establish cassava processing plants in Busia, which would open the door to cassava becoming another key cash crop in Busia County.
While challenging the association to believe in the beauty of their dreams, CAS Ababu challenged them to rise beyond partisan politics to Build a stable and prosperous county. He urged BUPA to focus on education by initiating innovative programs like adopting schools, mentoring an institution of higher learning and incubating alumni associations to support schools across the county. He also called for measures to support Busia businessmen to compete effectively.
Hon Ababu-Terrah also delivered a special message from Deputy President His Excellency Dr. William Ruto. Dr. Ruto congratulatied BUPA on it’s launch and committed himself to support its efforts to help make Busia a great County.
Hon. Ababu was joined by Busia County Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi, Nambale MP Hon John Bunyasi, Busia County Assembly Deputy Minority leader Hon. Luyemba, Kenya National Chanber of Commerce and Industry Busia Chapter Chair Peter Kubebea, among other leaders.
BUPA is a body of professionals who hail from Busia County that seeks to empower, enlighten and develop communities for the prosperity of the county. It is chaired by Professor Ngacho. The launch was also graced by WECOHAS Chair Professor Chunge and his officials.
