Foreign Affairs CAS Hon. Ababu Namwamba, EGH today opened strategy workshop for International Conference on the Great Lakes (ICGLR) Civil Society Forum at Maasai Lodge, Kajiado County.
CAS Ababu reminded the participants that civil society is a key anchor for alternative thought and urged them to play their rightful role to help the ICGLR deliver on its core mandate of peace, security, stability, responsible governance and creating a favourable environment for sustainable development and shared prosperity across the region.
He also called on them to think beyond national borders and take advantage of Kenya’s pedigree as the anchor of peace and stability in the region to deliver on the mandate of the ICGLR Civil Society Forum.
Having recently represented H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta at the 8th ICGLR Summit of Heads of State and Government, CAS Ababu further assured them of the Kenya government’s support in championing the full implementation of UNSC Resolutions 1325 and 2250 during her tenure on the United Nations Security Council.
The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) is an inter-governmental organization of the countries in the African Great Lakes Region. Its was established on the recognition that political instability and conflicts in the countries of the region have a regional dimension and require concerted efforts to promote sustainable peace and development. Kenya is a founding member of the ICGLR.
The highly successful workshop was supported by KANCO and hosted by the Chair of the Civil Society Forum Mr. Peter ole Musei.
