Covid-19: South Sudanese Vice President Riek Machar tests positive

South Sudanese first Vice president Dr Machar and his wife, Angelina Teny a Defence Minister have reportedly tested positive for the Corona virus, a pandemic that has continued wreaking havoc across the world. Dr. Machar while confirming the reports, said that he had been infected with the deadly virus, after interacting members of the High-Level Taskforce on Covid-19. A taskforce that was formed to deal and fight the pandemic in Africa’s youngest nation.

Dr. Machar Press Secretary Gatdet Dak while confirming the reports also said that a number of his office staff and bodyguards also tested positive with Covid-19 disease and had been isolated for treatment even as the virus continues to bite.

Mr. James Gatdet Dak also said Machar and his wife would be self-isolating at their home in Juba for the next two weeks as they manage the infection. He further confirmed that they were both asymptomatic but feeling well and healthy.

Dr. Machar in a televised news conference said that all his staff who had tested positive for COVID-19 were in good health and shall be quarantining themselves in their houses inorder to stop further spread of the virus.

“All our colleagues that have tested positive are in good health. From now on, we shall be quarantining ourselves in our house. A doctor may be visiting us until the they tell us it is time to end the quarantine. All our colleagues will also be self-quarantining. We are still awaiting other tests and hopefully tomorrow, we will have the full list (of positive cases among the Taskforce),” added Dr. Machar
