Deputy President William Samoei Ruto has finally spoken, a week after his General security was downsized and officers manning his residences replaced in what the National Police service termed as a normal procedure in the police service which shouldn’t worry Kenyans.
Speaking at church service, the second in command also downplayed what his supporters termed ‘controversial’ move by government to replace the elite General Service Unit officers whi have been guarding his residences with Administration Police Service officers.
Unperturbed deputy president added that the nation at large and its leadership should not waste a lot of time debating the issue as it is inconsequential and instead focus on moving forward and making Kenya a better country. He further termed the whole saga a none issue.
The DP also further clarified that he doesn’t mind even being guarded by G4S officers, adding that if the GSU officers were replaced inorder to protect Kenyans, their property and the country atlarge, so be it, that he supports the move if that was the main purpose for which they were redeployed.
“We will make sure the nation is firm, and this whole issue of GSU, AP etc is a small issue, which is a waste of time and resources discussing it” He said.
He also added that he doesn’t have any problem with the Administration Police officers manning his residences, going further to say that they can bring him even the G4S to secure his residences.
He also urged politicians to cease engaging in petty politics, and stop dividing the police service along party lines, things he termed as misplaced priorities.
The DP also rubbished calls from a section of the political class allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga, who have been very vocal, calling for his resignation from the Jubilee government over his discrediting of the same Government he serves as the principal assistant to the Head of State.
