German President H.E Frank-Walter Steinmeier is in Kenya on a five Day official visit which begun on Monday. President Steinmeier was received at JKIA on Sunday by Cabinet Secretar, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Amb .Raychelle Omamo, EGH.
H.E Steinmeier on Monday 24th held bilateral talks with H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, the bilateral talks according to State House are aimed at enhancing co-operation in areas of mutual interest for Kenya and Germany.
Germany is among Kenya’s development partners in the European Union, in the areas of green energy, health, promotion of human rights, education among other poverty alleviating projects. It is Kenya’s third largest export market in Europe after the UK and the Netherlands.
As at 2013, Kenya had exported goods worth KES. 8.24 billion to Germany while Germany exported goods worth KES. 37.49 billion to Kenya.

“I am certain that my meetings and talks during this visit will offer good opportunities to expand our bilateral economic and trade relations. Most major German companies have bases in Kenya, many of them even have large regional representations.” Said President Steinmeier during his interview with the Daily Nation prior to his visit.
The two countries have had a warm ties and diplomatic relations since 1961. Germany was the first country to recognize Kenya on independence. In 1966, President Heinrich Lauda of West Germany visited Nairobi.
In July 2011, German Chancellor Angela Merkel visited Kenya. She held talks with President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga. The Chancellor was on a tour to begin the newly incepted ‘Afrika-Konzept
