Kilifi County’s Ganze and Budalangi Sub County in Busia County are on the spot after photos of schools in those areas in deplorable conditions went viral.
Kilifi county is on the spot after photos of students sitting on bricks was all over social media and mainstream mediaon Thursday morning 9 May, with Kenyans asking why the relevant authorities ignore the school’s plight.
The school has since been identified as Mangororo Primary School is located in Jaribuni Ward, Ganze Sub county.
The photos show some students sitting while others standing on bricks which have submerged on water due to the ongoing rains in the area. Learning was interrupted on Thursday for the second consecutive day at Mangororomu as the teachers were were forced to suspend classes so students could take shelter.
Elsewhere, In Busia County, Kenya Gauze Primary school was also highlighted in for its poor state, with pupils learning in a dangerous structure and with no learning infrastructures like desks and boards.
Photos going viral show the school located in Bunyala North ward, in very worrying, inhuman and deplorable condition not conducive for learning.
Efforts to reach the Budalangi Member of Parliament Raphael Wanjala have proved futile as the legislator is yet to speak out or act on the issue.
Busia County Government has however come out and promised to address infrastructure challenges facing Kenya Gauze Primary School. While visiting the school, Busia County Executive Committee Member for Education and Vocational Training John Mwami admitted that the school with a total of 431 pupils including those in Early Childhood Education was in dire need of at least five classrooms.
