Nairobi Speaker Elachi returns to her office a year after she was forcefully evicted

Embattled Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi is back in office as Nairobi County Assembly Speaker following a court order that reinstated her after impeachment and has assumed her responsibility.Beatrice Elachi returned to her office on Wednesday morning, escorted by ODM ward representatives, 13 months after she was forcefully evicted. The ODM MCAs closed all the gates barring access into and out of the assembly.

Ms Elachi said she is back to “bring back sanity” in the Assembly, adding that women MCAs are tired of being intimidated all the time. While addressing the media, Elachi said that women in the county assembly are tired of intimidation. “I have been the speaker all along and I have come back to bring sanity in the assembly,” she said.

Elachi had stayed away from office following an outcry from a section of County Assembly members who were opposed to her reinstatement

Hitting out at the Majority Leader Abdi Guyo, Elachi warned that no leader should touch ODM Party leader Raila Odinga.

Ngara MCA Chege Mwaura, who has been acting in the position, however, insists he is still in charge with a section os MCAs insisting that  ODM MCAs had planned Elachi’s return, without involving the House leadership.
